Wednesday 9th November - Trauma patient

I didnt make it to the gym this morning. I was going to get up but i rolled over at 5.30am to see gaz sleeping peacefully and i thought hmmm i dont want to move! so i rolled over and went back to sleep.

One of the dentists was ill in work so i was given 5 of his patients...just what you need in 29 degree heat (the air con is broken in work). At 4.30pm the receptionist approached myself and one of the other dentists, asking to speak to a doctor at A and E. apparently a 12 year old boy had fallen off his bike and chipped his 2 front teeth. I looked at the other dentist who has worked at the dental clinic for 3 years and she wanted nothing to do with it. She said 'its the senior dentists job to talk to the doctor'...but the senior dentist was in a meeting....so she said 'well whoever is on call must deal with it'....but the guy on call is working in maryborough half hour away and wouldnt be able to leave there until he finished work. I told the receptionist i couldnt give advice as i havent seen the case and therefore to just tell the boy to get down to the dental clinic. By the time the boy got to the clinic at 4.45pm everyone else had buggered off to sit in the staffroom so i dealt with the case by myself.

This evening we all went out for a meal in the hervey bay boat club....another enjoyable meal! gaz and ian are getting up early to go fishing tomorrow morning so i think i might try hitting the gym before work!

  1. Really well done for doing the right thing for the child, and demonstrating to your colleagues the correct attitude to the emergency. Ian x
